Lodge Visit to Freemasons’ Hall

Nearly 30 members, their partners and friends visited Freemasons’ Hall in June and enjoyed a most enjoyable and enlightening private tour of the home to the United Grand Lodge of England.
Under the lead of an expert guide, the tour opened our eyes to the sheer beauty, engineering and craftmanship hidden behind the façade of this building. Built as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the First World War it is an inspiring place for the modern-day Freemason to meet, learn, develop and become better members of society.
Our tour started in the Museum of Freemasonry, took us though the many rooms, corridors and past the memorial monuments housed inside the building – ending up in the Grand Temple – all the time with an excellent running commentary from our tour guide.
Apart from its obvious masonic usages, we were told of the many Hollywood films using the building for scenes such as the recreation of Saddam Hussain’s Palace and the filming of the highly popular TV Series, Spooks – not forgetting its annual use for the internationally acclaimed British Fashion Week and shows.
We concluded our tour, with a pause, in the magnificent Grand Temple with time to take in both its scale and beauty – and unique to our tour, to hear a short recital on the newly rebuilt Grand Organ played by the Metropolitan Grand Organist – who just happens to be a member of our Lodge!
